A 35-year-old man is expected to appear virtually before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today charged with larceny of ten cases of White Oak liquor.
Dwayne Joseph, of Johnny King Road, Aranguez, was arrested on Wednesday and charged by PC Maunday of the Port-of-Spain City Police Task Force.
He was charged after a driver reported to police that two men allegedly took a quantity of cases of alcohol from his delivery truck.
According to police reports, at 11.40 am on Wednesday, officers attached to the Port-of-Spain City Police Task Force responded to a distress call in which a man reported that a quantity of White Oak cases were missing from his delivery van.
Upon arrival at the scene on Charlotte Street, Port-of-Spain, the task force officers conducted further enquiries which led them to an empty lot in San Juan.
There police said they found a quantity of alcohol valued approximately $8,100 under a plastic tarpaulin. A suspect was later detained and taken to the Port-of-Spain City Police Headquarters, pending further enquiries.
During the investigation, a man entered the Port-of-Spain City Police Headquarters and reported to officers that earlier in the day, he was delivering products to a supermarket when parked his two-tonne truck and went away.
The driver later returned and observed a man walking in front of him with a case of White Oak in his hands. The driver also told police that he saw another man sitting outside of the supermarket oddly watching him.
The driver then made checks to his van where he discovered that it had been tampered with and a quantity of cases of White Oak missing.
He gave no one permission to remove the items.
Investigations led to the arrest of Joseph who was later charged with the offence.
PC Maunday is continuing enquiries.
