An unidentified man is dead after attempting to steal Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) cables in Barrackpore.
A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) on Saturday stated: “T&TEC security officers received information from the Barrackpore Police Station around 2 am today that someone was electrocuted at Rochard Douglas Road, Barrackpore.”
Upon investigating, a man was found slumped and motionless over cables between T&TEC LP 114 and 115 in the vicinity of a TSTT pole.
It was believed the victim was cutting and stealing TSTT cables in the area when the incident occurred, as two hacksaw sets were found nearby and some TSTT cables were cut and hung in the area.
T&TEC said this disrupted the electricity supply to part of the area however power was restored at 6 am.
Barrackpore Police are continuing investigations.
The theft of TSTT copper cables has become prevalent throughout the country, which has resulted in disruption in services for customers and caused a loss of lives for those who attempt to steal.
