ONE of the persons involved in the multiple car accident, which also involved Minister in the Ministry of Housing Anil Roberts has died.
Roberts mentioned the news while giving his contribution to the debate on the amendment of the Children’s Life Fund Act in the Senate on Monday.
Before he delved into his contribution, he said he had just received the tragic news that a passenger in the vehicle that happened to hit his from behind passed away.
Roberts said, “I want to offer condolences to his family, friends and so on.”
He also asked that persons using the nation’s roads “to do so with care and consideration.”
Roberts also said it was fitting that he was in Senate debating the Children’s Life Fund because life could be fleeting and he again offered his condolences to the person’s family and friends.
On Saturday, Roberts was involved in an early morning accident along the Beetham highway. In a video posted a few hours later, he gave an account of what occurred stating that one person had to be hospitalised.
In his contribution to the Act which government is seeking to amend, he commended independent senator Dr Desiree Murray for her contribution which others also commended.
Roberts said, “It is the first time I have heard in public, in this Parliament, reading newspapers or editorials, some-one in a position of power telling the Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar that the law that came from her mind, her heart, her body and spirit, came from a place of empathy, compassion and care.
“And you put it on Hansard and I thank you for that.”
He also took a jab at now Opposition Senator Faris Al-Rawi saying he actually said something “making sense.”
Roberts who spoke after Al-Rawi said he agreed with Al-Rawi on the point that in Trinidad and Tobago, the people who have responsibility for the child, should also be able to apply on the child’s behalf for access to the fund.
