A 26-YEAR-OLD driver died after crashing into a clock and a light pole on Wednesday night in Chaguanas.
Justin Nanan, of Charles Street, La Romaine, was still gasping for breath when he was found trapped inside his vehicle around 9.30pm by emergency responders.
Police reported that upon arrival at the Chaguanas Main Road in the vicinity of Courts, they observed a white Nissan Wingroad wagon facing in a south east position on the east bound lane of the road.
A lone occupant, the driver was trapped and fire officers were attempting to free Nanan who was still alive.
Officers also observed the clock in the vicinity of Busy Corner was knocked over and a light pole was cut out from the base which was on the median of the roadway.
Present on the scene were officers from the Chaguanas Fire Services under the supervision of FSO Mohammed and FSSO Bideshie.
Nanan was removed and taken via ambulance to Chaguanas Accident and Emergency Facility where he was pronounced dead at 10.06pm.
Police said Nanan was proceeding east along the Chaguanas Main Road on the one-way portion at high speed, when on reaching in the vicinity of Endeavour Road and Busy Corner, lost control and collided with the clock and the light pole.
The front of the vehicle was damaged. The exact time of the impact is not known.
The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission emergency crew under the supervision of Andy Khan secured the broken light pole and turned off the electricity from the lines surrounding the accident scene.
