On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health issued a release stating that the five cases were detected and advised high-risk persons to take precautions to safeguard themselves against the disease that is spread by the female Anopheles mosquito.
Deyalsingh repeated the caution in his message on Thursday.

He said, “The main area of caution as we investigate the cases is our high risk populations and what do we mean. These are people who frequent forested areas: hunters, environmentalists, hikers farmers, members of the protective services who go into our forests especially in south Trinidad where we have discovered this cluster.”
Such persons should take precautions such as wearing, long-sleeve clothing, wearing insect repellant and sleeping with mosquito nets.
