HEAD of Sacha Cosmetics Ltd (Sacha) Satyakama “Kama” Maharaj has been named as Minister of Trade Investment and Tourism.
He was sworn in on Wednesday evening by President Christine Kangaloo at the President’s House in Port of Spain.
And Phillip Alexander has been named Minister in the Ministry of Housing.
The brief ceremony was not attended to by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar who on Saturday sworn in 32 persons as either ministers or parliamentary secretaries at the same venue.
Attorney General John Jeremie, SC, attended.
There was much discussion about what role Alexander would play in the United National Congress (UNC) led government.

Alexander, political leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) was a main figure on the UNC campaign trails in the lead up to general election April 28.
His name was not on the list of initial ministers and parliamentary secretaries but he was in attendance at the Cabinet swearing – in ceremony standing at Persad-Bissessar’s side as she conducted media interviews afterwards.
Maharaj, a renowned businessman for decades is known for sending Sacha cosmetics into the world. In 2017, he was named the country entrepreneur of the year by Ernst and Young.
With Alexander’s addition to the Housing Ministry, it would mean that the ministry now has three ministers, line minister Dr David Lee and Minister in the Ministry of Housing Anil Roberts.
Lee and Roberts were sworn in last Saturday.
