SOCA superstar Machel Montano performed at the Mahashivratri celebrations in India on Tuesday.
Instead of performing during the Carnival season in Trinidad, Montano opted to venture to India along with his wife Rene. Today is Carnival Tuesday and the Covid-19 restrictions have prevented the street parades and other festivities.
For the past seven months, Montano has been in India participating in a yoga programme (Sadhanapada) at the Isha Yoga Centre, under the tutelage of Sadhguru, Yogi, a release stated on Saturday.
Montano recently partnered with the Conscious Planet Save Soil movement, which is led by yoga guru Jagadish “Jaggi” Vasudev, also known as Sadhguru, to raise global awareness and encourage government policy action to revitalise the soil.
The religious ceremony held at the Isha Yoga Centre also had a global theme which was “Save the Soil.” The event was live-streamed on Youtube and other social media pages.
Introduced as the soca king, Montano, clad in an orange outfit and barefooted did not fail to deliver a spectacular performance in collaboration with the sounds of Isha Yoga Centre.
Performing new music from his label MONK music, “On my way”, Montano had the thousands gathered clapping and waving just as if he was doing a groovy soca performance in Trinidad.
“It’s about survival today, it would take you and me and everyone and a conscious planet,” was one of the messages he drove home.
Mahashivratri, a Hindu festival in honour of Lord Shiva was officially celebrated on Monday.
