CITIZENS have an additional public holiday on Tuesday making this weekend the second out of eight long weekends for 2025.
President Christine Kangaloo declared Sunday, March 30 a public holiday in recognition of Eid-ul-Fitr, following the advice of Cabinet.

A release from the Office of the Prime Minister last week stated that since the day was already a designated public holiday for Spiritual Shouter Baptist Liberation Day, government appointed Monday, March 31 as a public holiday to observe Eid-ul-Fitr and Tuesday April 1, as the public holiday for the Spiritual Baptist community.
This is in accordance with the Public Holidays and Festivals Act, the release stated.
This year, citizens have at least eight long weekends to look forward to.
The first one was the Carnival weekend that went on March 3 and March 4.
Next three weeks, the country will celebrate the Easter long weekend from April 18 to April 21.
And in May, Indian Arrival Day will be held on Friday May 30.
The other long weekends are scheduled for August into September to celebrate Emancipation and Independence Day, Divali in October and the Christmas and Boxing Day holiday in December.
