SAN FERNANDO – LOCAL Government elections will be held later this year, Prime Minister Keith Rowley said yesterday.
He was speaking to the media after he arrived at the People’s National Movement (PNM) regional office at Navet Road in San Fernando where candidates were to be screened.
Rowley dismissed talk that the elections were to be postponed saying, “We have always maintained that elections will be held when it is due,”
He did not give a precise date, but Local Government elections are due in November.
Speaking about his party’s screening of candidates, he said, “The process has just begun where we started in Sangre Grande. Today we are doing three corporations- Point Fortin, San Fernando and Siparia.”
