TWO kidnapped D’Abadie men have been safely recovered, just one day after a $1.2 million ransom was demanded for their release.
Ryan Singh, 18, and Keeran Latchman, 21, were reported missing on Monday after Latchman’s van was found abandoned in Arouca.
According to Latchman’s mother, Annie Seetahal, both men left home around 2 pm to make a delivery in Valencia.
Seetahal told members of the media she reported the men missing on Monday and on Tuesday, Singh’s family received a $1.2 ransom demand for the return of the men.
In a media release on Wednesday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) confirmed the two kidnapped victims had been found in Valencia following a “precision-led intelligence operation conducted in the Valencia district.”
The TTPS said intelligence gathered led the TTPS to a location in Valencia where two individuals were arrested in connection with the kidnapping.
They stated that news of the arrests and police presence in the area led to the associates guarding the hostages to flee their camp.
TTPS said, “Seizing the moment, the victims were able to escape and made their way to the Valencia Police Station, where they are currently assisting officers with inquiries.”
Singh and Latchman were to be taken for medical attention before being reunited with their families.
Speaking on the rescue operation, Commissioner of Police (CoP) Allister Guevarro stated, “The swift response and inter-agency coordination underscore our commitment to protecting citizens and dismantling criminal networks. I commend the officers for their disciplined approach and express relief at the safe return of the victims.”
The operation was jointly coordinated by Guevarro, Deputy Commissioner Suzette Martin and Assistant Commissioner Richard Smith, with supervision by Senior Superintendent Winston Maharaj and Superintendent Anderson Pariman.
The TTPS said investigations were still ongoing as they continued their pursuit of all persons involved in the kidnapping.
