Kamla’s Cabinet to be 35 Members

PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has one more person to be sworn in as a minister to complete her Cabinet.
Persad-Bissessar disclosed on Saturday that the person to take up the mantle as Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism was currently abroad.
She was speaking to reporters following the swearing-in ceremony of 32 ministers and parliamentary secretaries at the President’s House in St Ann’s on Saturday. In addition of these, Persad-Bissessar as prime minister and Attorney General John Jeremie also constitute the Cabinet.

Dr Neil Gosine, who won the Chaguanas West constituency for the United National Congress (UNC), was sworn in as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Trade Investment and Tourism Dr Neil Gosine.

When asked if there were any more additions to the Cabinet other than that minister, she replied, “None.”
However, she did say that if needed, more will be added.

“I tried to get the best talent that we could, persons are qualified in various ways. For the moment, I am confident that we can govern with a Cabinet of this size. Should it become necessary, we will increase,” the prime minister said.
“There is always room for change,” Persad-Bissessar said.

She also said campaign promises will be kept, one day at a time.

The prime minister said her government will be focused on increasing the national revenue, reducing the food import bill and diversifying the economy.
Persad-Bissessar also said that even though she spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the revoked Dragon Gas deal was not mentioned.
Persad-Bissessar said the Dragon gas deal was no more, hence the reason to look to CARICOM instead and not ruling out Tobago.
