PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has vowed to expose the unfair distribution of foreign exchange that had taken place under the previous government.

Speaking on Thursday at the post-cabinet press briefing held at the Red House, Port of Spain, she said, “Ministers Tancoo, Swaratsingh and Maharaj, they have been mandated also to bring a report on Forex distribution and leakages over the past ten years.”

She said the issue of Forex distribution was a serious concern for many in the country and her government was committed to getting to the bottom of the issue.

Persad-Bissessar said, “One of the cries we heard in the country was about the issue of Forex. So, we need to know where the FOREX went, to who it went, why it went, how it went and how it was deployed and how it was used. Those reports will come to us and will be shared with you.”

Alluding to unfair practices taking place, she said the report presented by the ministers would be made public.

Persad-Bissessar said, “This report, as I said, will be made public to identify the main users, the main facilitators of this unfair distribution and explain to the public how this entire forex distribution cartel and conspiracy between certain operatives and businesses worked.”

Again, she assured the public that her government was working assiduously to tackle the economic issues facing the country.

She said, “You have elected us to fix things, to ensure that you can be confident in a good future.”
