POLITICAL leader of the United National Congress (UNC), Kamla Persad-Bissessar tells her candidates to keep the campaign clean in the last few days before the general election on Monday.
She was speaking to supporters and candidates at a birthday celebration at the office of the UNC candidate for Aranguez/St Joseph Devesh Maharaj at Aranguez Main Road on Tuesday night. This was held after the political meeting at the La Joya Sporting Complex in St Joseph. She turned 73 on Tuesday.
Persad-Bissessar told candidates do not “do any stupidness” as there were only about five days of campaigning left.
She said, “We are peaking at the right time. As I said, five days (of campaigning) on the sixth day we will vote.”
Persad-Bissessar advised her candidates to “stay calm” between now and then.
She said, “Stay calm, stay focused on what is our destiny. And do not do something to change that destiny. It just takes one mistake and the enemy will chop (us) into be bits, our enemy will be rejoicing instead of us…”
Persad-Bissessar said, “Second, stay on message. This campaign has been doing very well because all of you have been working so hard.”
She said, “Don’t go down into the gutter. We keep it high. And when we keep it high, we will rise.”
Persad-Bissessar said, “Keep it clean. When they go low, we go high.”
