POLITICAL Leader of the United National Congress (UNC) Kamla Persad-Bissessar wants her Naparima MP Rodney Charles to be moved from next to her in the Parliament.
Charles sits directly on the left-hand side of Persad-Bissessar on the front row benches in the House of Representatives. Opposition Chief Whip David Lee sits at Persad-Bissessar’s right hand.
Without naming him, Persad-Bissessar with focus on the upcoming UNC internal election and the promotion of her STAR team, lashed out at the opposing United Patriots again describing them as the government’s propogandists “parroting and repeating the same messages as the PNM.” Charles is supporting the United Patriots but he was not contesting any position in the UNC internal elections set for June 15.
She said, “I see a man on a platform who sits next to me in Parliament… You know that kind of hurting me you know, Chief Whip (Lee) we should do something about that.”
Applause erupted her supporters at Signature Hall in Chaguanas on Monday.
Persad-Bissessar said according to the Bible there was no greater sin than ingratitude.
She played a video clip featuring Charles in which he said that the UNC has become a party in which no-one of integrity wanted to be a part of.
“Why? You are not in the UNC?” Persad-Bissessar asked. She said, “But you fighting tooth and nail for your partners to come and take over the UNC.”

“It will not happen!” the political leader declared.
Persad-Bissessar said, “What kind of integrity is that? You have been here for 15 years man. Ungratefulness, No greater sin.”
Engaging her supporters, she fished for a word to describe the statements. When (the Hindi word for (ungrateful) neemakaram was shouted Persad-Bissessar said, “it is something worse than that.”
There was another suggestion of “bipolar” which she said was “a very good word.”
Charles is expected to issue a release soon to respond to her statements.
Opposition Chief Whip David Lee explained to AZP News that the decision was a national executive (NATEX) decision to make if Charles’ seating arrangement is to be changed.
“We will see,” he said.
Lee added that this Friday, the session in Parliament was important as the debate begins on the Budget’s Mid Year review.
