PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is assuring the nation she is fine after taking a tumble at the closing ceremony of the JAVA Community Cricket Programme.
Persad-Bissessar was invited to address the campers at the closing ceremony at Wilson Road Recreation Grounds in Penal on Wednesday.
Making her way to her seat, Persad-Bissessar tripped, falling to the floor.
Speaking to the media after the incident, she said, “I had a stumble a little earlier. Let us clear that up, the elephant in the room. The floor was very uneven and when I stepped, it lifted, and I stumbled a bit. But God is great, I got up instantly and I am fine.”
Turning the fall into a lesson, when addressing the young campers, Persad-Bissessar said, “Not every fall is to be ashamed of because when you fall, we get back in and we fight, and we continue to fight and keep hope going.”
She was later photographed practising her batting skills with the young campers.
Responding to Persad-Bissessar’s fall, Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles issued a statement extending her best wishes to the Prime Minister.
Beckles stated, “I wish to extend best wishes to Mrs Persad-Bissessar during this time, and I pray that she endures no discomfort or delayed impairment.”
Shortly after 7.30 pm, Persad-Bissessar posted on her Facebook page saying, “I am deeply grateful for the outpouring of concern following a minor fall in Penal earlier today.”
“I also thank the Honourable Leader of the Opposition Pennelope Beckles for her kind words. Rest assured, I am well. God is good and we continue the fight with strength and faith,” the Prime Minister stated.
