OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is condemning the use of tear-gas on protestors at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Sunday.
In a statement to the media, Persad-Bissessar said, “I condemn the government’s use of tear gas against men, women and children peacefully singing hymns and praying in a demonstration of their human and constitutional rights in the Queen’s Park Savannah today.”

She said under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley the country was sliding down into an abyss of chaos, death and violence.
“Keith Rowley has crossed the line into dictatorship territory with police firing what appears to be leaden tear gas canisters into a crowd of citizens,” Persad-Bissessar said.
She added that tear gas has not been used in this country since 1975, during the peaceful religious March for Bread, Peace and Justice, which turned into Bloody Tuesday after violent police suppression by the PNM.
The Opposition Leader declared that Sunday was Dr Rowley’s “Bloody Sunday”.
She reminded the population of previous statements made when she said that the prime minister was following the tyranny of the leadership in Venezuela.
“We are witnessing this happen right before our eyes,” she said.
And Persad-Bissessar also said that her party, the United National Congress (UNC) will continue to fight for the preservation of democracy and our freedom.
Tear gas was used by police on Sunday at the Queen’s Park Savannah to disperse a crowd during an anti-vax rally.
