FORMER government minister under the People’s National Movement Jarrette Narine has passed away.
His death was mourned by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley who posted on Facebook on Monday, “A patriot has retired. For us in the PNM a stalwart is gone after he had kept the faith and run the course.”
Last year, Narine was awarded the Chaconia Medal Silver for his contributions to public service.
Narine was also a former Member of Parliament for Lopinot/Bon Air West.
Current MP, Marvin Gonzales issued condolences.
In a media release on Monday, Gonzales stated, “On behalf of the constituency of Lopinot/ Bon Air West, I wish to extend sincere condolences to the family of the late former Member of Parliament Mr Jarrette Narine.”
He said Narine has a record of distinguished service to Trinidad and Tobago and the PNM having served as the Member of Parliament for Arouca North (now Lopinot/Bon Air West) from 1991 to 2007.
He also held ministerial portfolios as Minister of Local Government, Minister of Agriculture, and Minister of Works, and served on the St. George East County Council for eight years.
Gonzales said his constituency acknowledged the tremendous contribution of Narine to the development of the country and expresses gratitude for his public service to the constituency and country.
“We pray that Almighty God will grant his family the strength to endure this most difficult time. May his soul rest in perpetual peace,” Gonzales said.
