JAREEM RICAHRDS has defended his Commonwealth Games 200 metres race in a record time in Birmingham on Saturday.
The Point Fortin star raced to first place at 19.80 seconds, in front of England’s Zharnel Hughes at 20.12 seconds and Ghana’s Joseph Amoah third with 20.49 seconds.
Richards accomplishments also included gold at the 2019 IAAF in the Men’s 4 by 400 World Relays in Japan with teammates, Asa Guevera, Machel Cedenio and the late Deon Lendore with a time of three minutes and 00.81 seconds.
Then in March 2022, the track and field athlete also won gold in the 400m indoor title in Belgrade.
His gold medal id T&T’s fourth at this year’s Commonwealth Games, when Cyclist Nicholas Paul copped three medals prior, gold, silver and bronze.
Richards broke the record held by Frankie Fredericks of Namibia who set 19.97 in the 200 m in the Commonwealth Games in 1994.
