Water Issues in Valencia

PEOPLE living in extremities and elevated areas in Valencia are impacted by a cutback in production at the Hollis Water Treatment Plant and Quare Booster Station, due to below normal rainfall over the past four months.

In a release on Monday, the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) stated that every effort is being made to deliver a pipe-borne supply over this coming week.

The areas include:

  • San Pablo;
  • San Pedro;
  • Mora; Clarance Trace;
  • Cumaca Road; and
  • Casuarina Boulevard and environs.

WASA stated that it was currently undertaking several initiatives to improve the situation including increasing production at the Hollis Water Treatment Plant.

It stated that recent rainfall within the Hollis catchment has led to an increase in the storage capacity at the reservoir, from approximately 42 to 48 %.

Apart from this, WASA stated, there has also been an increase in flows in the Quare River, which similarly allows for increased production at this facility.

In addition to these, adjustments along the distribution system were expected to provide the additional water and pressures required to reach the affected areas with a pipe-borne supply in the coming days.

In the interim, the authority will continue to utilise its truck-borne service to supplement the supply to affected customers, the release stated.
