MORUGA is set to get an improved water supply in the short term.
On Saturday, the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) executive Evolution Team, led by Acting CEO Jeevan Joseph, toured the Moruga/Tableland constituency accompanied by its MP Michelle Benjamin, to determine the infrastructure requirements and consumer demand.

During the tour, Joseph announced several immediate short-term measures to alleviate water shortages, including:
•         Increasing the storage capacity at the Marac Baptist Primary School by 5,000 gallons.
•         Establishing four centralised water storage terminals, each with a 30,000-gallon capacity, in strategic locations.
The tour of the Moruga/Tableland constituency was the 11th stop in WASA’s nationwide Infrastructure Assessment and Community Engagement initiative, WASA stated in a media release.

WASA also visited multiple communities to assess infrastructure and address specific concerns:
•         John Joe Hill, Marac: Committed to building a 30,000-gallon water storage terminal to provide short-term relief for residents currently without service despite existing pipelines.
•         La Lune Booster Station: Assessed the facility for future developmental works.
•         La Savanne and Corosan Road: Met with residents who lack pipeline infrastructure.
•         Boucaud Trace: Addressed poor supply issues by committing to a new 30,000 storage terminal and informing residents that the upcoming completion of the GP Road Pipeline Project (6.8 km of new transmission line) will significantly boost water volume to the area.
•         First Branch Road: Residents complained of a lack of pipeline infrastructure and were assured of the installation of a 30,000-gallon storage terminal to provide immediate relief.
•         HDC Gomez Trace Housing Development: In response to resident complaints, the team assessed a malfunctioning wastewater treatment plant and committed to working with the HDC to find a solution.

At the conclusion of the tour, Benjamin expressed her gratitude to WASA.
She said, “I thank the Acting CEO and officials for their dedication to understanding the critical issues our communities face. Their commitment to implementing both immediate and long-term solutions is a welcome development for the people of Moruga/Tableland.”
The WASA nationwide plant assessment and community engagement tour, which began in June 2025, continues to identify and address water supply challenges in underserved communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
