AT International Cricket Council (ICC) Annual Conference in Colombo, the ICC Board has announced a review of the delivery of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The review will be overseen by three directors, namely Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo and Imran Khwaja, who will provide a comprehensive report to the board later this year.
A release on Monday stated that during the conference, the theme of “capitalising on the Olympic opportunity” took centre stage, aligning with cricket’s upcoming inclusion in LA28 following the Paris 24 Olympics.
Governance was a key focus of the discussions, with USA Cricket and Cricket Chile facing scrutiny for their non-compliance with the ICC Membership Criteria. Both organisations have been formally put on notice and given 12 months to rectify their governance and administrative structures.
The ICC Americas office will collaborate with Cricket Chile to address their non-compliance, while a Normalisation Committee will be established to oversee USA Cricket’s compliance roadmap. The Board retains the right to take further action, including suspension or expulsion, if non-compliance persists.
On the cricketing front, the Chief Executives’ Committee revealed the allocation of qualifying spots for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, with specific quotas for different regions. Moreover, the ICC announced the expansion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2030 from 12 to 16 teams, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to gender equity in cricket.
Furthermore, the cut-off date for qualification for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 qualifier was set for 31 October 2024. Additionally, Paul Reiffel was appointed to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee as the Elite Panel representative, further strengthening the cricketing structure within the ICC.
