MINISTER of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds says he is extremely saddened that in the face of the serious threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, citizens would still allow themselves to party in crowds.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Hinds said he was aware that law enforcement officers were able to clamp down on a yacht just after midnight on Monday, detaining more than 60 persons who were on board including soldiers and other law enforcement officers.
The incident occurred just one week after some 100 persons were temporarily detained aboard the Ocean Pelican.
The minister also said he was pleased that the necessary action was taken by the police officers of the Western Division and the Coast Guard who intervened.
Hinds said, “I was very saddened to learn that there are still citizens of Trinidad and Tobago who in the face of the very serious threat of Covid-19 and its variants, the latest being the Omicron, who would still find it necessary, useful, helpful, fashionable perhaps to congregate themselves to party in the face of the risks that we are all confronted with. I was very saddened at that fact.”
He said efforts will continue to be made to improve the country’s borders in also locating drugs and migrants attempting to illegally enter Trinidad and Tobago.
