A high-powered rifle and 17 rounds of ammunition are in the hands of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
A Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 rifle and 17 rounds of .22 ammunition were seized during a targeted State of Emergency (SoE) operation in Upper Wharf Trace, Maracas, St Joseph, on Tuesday.
According to a press release from the TTPS the operation took place between 12:00 am and 2:00 am and was carried out under the SoE Powers Regulations 2025.
The TTPS stated, acting on intelligence, officers proceeded to the area where a search led to the discovery and seizure of the rifle. The rifle was fitted with a plastic magazine containing the 17 rounds of ammunition.
The operation was coordinated by ASP Bharath, Insp Pierre, Insp Peters, and supervised by Cpl Forde, with support from members of the North Central Task Force (NCTF) East and West, including Sgt Charles, PC Alexander, and PC Bartholomew.
The release stated, “The TTPS remains vigilant and proactive in its efforts to remove illegal firearms and ammunition from communities, especially under the expanded powers granted during the State of Emergency. Citizens are reminded to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement officers as we work together to maintain safety and order.”
