THE Heroes Foundation has officially launched the Leaves of Legacy initiative.

In a release sent on Monday, the Heroes Foundation said Leaves of Legacy was a youth-led environmental action initiative that was created in collaboration with the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago and Republic Bank’s Power to Make a Difference Programme.

Monday’s launch took place at the Hilton Trinidad Hotel and Conference Centre, Port of Spain and coincided with the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Conference.

At the launch, three Ashoka trees on the Hilton compound and 200 trees and food crops were distributed to the students of six secondary schools who were in attendance.

The Foundation stated, these students will lead greening efforts within their school environments and establish home and school gardens over the coming months.

They said participating secondary schools would be tasked with planting and caring for trees, fruit-bearing plants, and urban greenery, as well as creating home and school gardens using sustainable practices.

The Foundation stated the initiative was aimed at empowering children and youth to take active ownership and leadership in urban, community, and residential spaces across Trinidad and Tobago.

The release quoted Rayshad Rajkumar, a Form 4 student at Trinity College Moka, saying “Leaves of Legacy is an inspiring project, and I’m grateful to be involved. For me, it’s more than just about planting trees; it’s about planting change. The conference reminded me of how important it is for older generations to guide and mentor us, while giving us the space to act. With their support, we can take the lead in creating a greener, better future. Not someday in the future but starting now.”

The Foundation said, “Leaves of Legacy brings these efforts into a coordinated national movement, centred on young people, grounded in community, and designed to leave a lasting legacy of environmental care, equity, and intergenerational impact.”
