THE Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is urging anyone who may be experiencing any form of violence or threats to reach out for professional help through the TTPS’ Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU).

In a statement on Wednesday following the murder/suicide of a Adeina Alleyne, 35, and who was chopped to death by her common-law husband, Dwight Waldrof in San Fernando, the TTPS also emphasised the need for members of the communities who “may see something to say something.”

The TTPS through its Victim and Witness Support Unit (VWSU), initiated an intervention with the surviving relatives and neighbours aimed at providing counselling and critical incident stress debriefings.

On Wednesday, Team Lead of the Southern Division VWSU Bernadette Sealy, VWSU officer Ayanna Phillip, and officers attached to the San Fernando Police Station met with the relatives and neighbours at Lady Hailes Avenue, Embacadere.

The TTPS stated, “The VWSU team will maintain close contact with the family and provide further intervention during the difficult period ahead as the Unit fulfils its mandate of delivering support to victims and witnesses impacted by these brutal and ill-fated circumstances.”

The intervention is also expected to be done in collaboration with the National Family Services Division and Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
