Health Ministry Braces for Beryl

MEASURES are in place to ensure minimal disruption to public healthcare services in anticipation of bad weather associated with Hurricane Beryl. 

The Ministry of Health in a media release on Saturday night informed the public that it has activated a comprehensive preparedness plan to ensure minimal disruption of services across the health sector.

“The Ministry of Health assures the population that all measures are being undertaken to collaborate with all relevant ministries and agencies to ensure minimal service disruptions during this period,” the release stated. 

The ministry stated that its Emergency Operations Centre has been activated since June 3 to provide situational awareness and event-based and syndromic surveillance of mass gatherings related to the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup.

“This activation has now been further extended to include preparedness for and response to adverse weather conditions associated with the ensuing weather system. Additionally, the Ministry of Health continues to liaise with all Regional Health Authorities to safeguard its facilities and ensure continuity of service and service delivery,” the ministry stated. 

The release stated that the ministry via its website and social media platforms will continue to share information on measures that the public can take to minimise the threat of water and vector borne diseases associated with flooding.

Citizens are being encouraged  to heed all relevant alerts and advisories issued and utilize established sources of information or contact the various emergency response agencies should assistance be required. 

Currently, Tobago is under a Tropical Storm Watch while the Yellow Level weather alert for Trinidad has been discontinued.
