Health Ministers Visit Scarborough General Hospital

DAYS after the Scarborough General Hospital was overwhelmed with cases, it was visited by the two ministers heading the Ministry of Health.
Health Minister Dr Lackram Bodoe and Minister in the Ministry of Health Dr Rishad Seecheran conducted an official site visit on Friday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the nation.

Leading the delegation was Deputy Chief Secretary and Secretary of the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection within the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Dr Faith Brebnor.
The ministers along with members of the executive team of the Ministry of Health toured various departments of the facility, observed operations firsthand, and engaged with medical and administrative staff on the ground, a release from the Ministry of Health stated.

During the visit, the ministers also met with Chairman of the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) Chrislyn Moore and Chief Executive Officer of the TRHA Dr Delmon Baker.
The visit focused on the current service delivery landscape in Tobago, ongoing infrastructure development, and opportunities for improving patient outcomes and resource efficiency.

The release stated, “The Ministry of Health continues to collaborate closely with the THA and the TRHA to ensure the delivery of high-quality, accessible healthcare services to all residents of Tobago.”
On Tuesday night, the TRHA issued a statement declaring the Scarborough General Hospital had become overwhelmed and had gone into “Emergency Mode,” addressing only life-threatening cases and cancelling all elective procedures.
