A PRE-ACTION protocol letter has been sent to the Chairman of the National Carnival Commission (NCC) Winston ‘Gypsy’ Peters and the NCC for excluding an all-female calypso tent from an event.

Dated Saturday, the letter was written by Martin George on behalf of Dr Rudolph Ottley who is the owner of the Divas Calypso Cabaret International.

George is threatening High Court action and the filing of an injunction claiming nepotism, cronyism and self-dealing by Peters as Chairman of the NCC for including his own Back to Basics Calypso Tent in the Taste of Carnival line-up and excluding the Divas Calypso Cabaret International.

The letter is also alleging gender discrimination by Peters.  The all-female Divas Calypso Cabaret International has a regular cast of about 18 female calypsonians and was established in 2004 as a non-governmental organisation, George wrote.

Peters and the NCC are given until Tuesday to include the all-female tent or face High Court proceedings by way of application for judicial review and an Injunction to rectify the situation.
