GUYANA – Police say a 25-year-old security guard is assisting their investigations into the shooting death of a 34-year-old Cuban national on Sunday.
According to the police, Pedro Alexander Frometa Slonchak, was shot dead at a supermarket in the capital and that the security guard, identified as Kelvin Belgrave from the KGM Security Service is in custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The police said that the security guard had noticed that Slonchak was repeatedly going in and out of the supermarket and when approached the two men got into a scuffle.
The police statement said that Slonack claimed that the Cuban national had a knife and that he was able to disarm the man, stabbing him with the same knife to his right shoulder and the head.
The police said that the security guard claimed that after stabbing the man, he drew his firearm and discharged six rounds, hitting Slonack four times to the body. The 34-year-old man collapsed and died at the scene. (CMC)
