GUYANA now has confirmed another case of the Monkeypox virus.
Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony confirmed the second patient’s diagnosis in a Covid-19 update on Monday.
Dr Anthony did not reveal details but assured the public the patient was stable at the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal and contact tracing has begun.
However, he urged the public to take precautions, “If you have somebody with rashes you should call the health authorities so that we can have somebody go out there and examine what it is and be able to guide the person.”
Guyana confirmed its first case of monkeypox on August 22, in a man in his 50’s from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
Since then the infected man has been placed in isolation at the Ocean View Hospital Infectious Diseases Hospital, however, it was unclear whether the man had travelled overseas or if he had picked up the virus locally.
The Guyanese government has encouraged persons not to panic as there were systems in place to prevent monkeypox from spreading.
