A COMPONENT of a firearm which can alter a pistol into a fully automatic machine gun was one of the items found and seized by police over the weekend.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) reported that the item was found in a bushy area off Parbatia Trace in Chase Village during an anti-crime exercise which began on Friday.
Exercises conducted by officers of the Southern and Central Divisions resulted in the arrest of twelve persons and the seizure of firearms and ammunition, a quantity of marijuana and cocaine.
In Freeport, the exercise included officers from the Freeport Criminal Investigation Department and officers the Freeport Charge Room. The operations concentrated on drug blocks and persons of interest in the Mission Road and Arena Road, Freeport as several searches were conducted and search warrants executed.
During a search in Carapichaima, one rifle magazine with fifteen rounds of ammunition were seized under debris of a staircase in an abandoned building.
One of the officers had cause to stop and search a 20-year-old man and a quantity of cocaine was found hidden in his pocket.
In the Southern Division, nine persons were arrested on various charges related to drug and firearm possessions, the suspects ranging in ages 19 years to 42 years. The exercise was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Smith, ASP Jaikaran, Inspector Ramlogan and included officers of the Southern Division Task Force and the K9 Unit.
