COMMISSIONER of Police Allister Guevarro is urging all citizens to stand together with police officers to ensure the best outcome of the State of Emergency (SoE).
On Sunday, Guevarro via media release asked citizens to reject negativity surrounding the SoE.
He said, “I am urging every citizen of Trinidad and Tobago to stand shoulder-to shoulder with law enforcement during this critical juncture. Let us reject the noise of naysayers and keyboard warriors, individuals who flood mainstream and social media with unsolicited commentary, yet lack any credible policing experience. Most have never arrested a suspect, laid a charge, or faced the sobering accountability of a courtroom.”

Guevarro said the TTPS was using the integration of covert operations and strategic intelligence which will fundamentally shift the dimensions of the SoE, from the traditional reactive enforcement to proactive disruption.
“This is not just policing, it’s precision-guided intervention. But these gains are only sustainable through partnership,” he said.
Guevarro said, “This moment demands unity, not distraction. When we support our officers and amplify the truth over speculation, we strengthen our communities and reaffirm our collective commitment to safety and progress.”
The TTPS reported on Sunday that within the  first 72 hours of the SoE that was implemented since Friday morning, a total of 1,185 searches were conducted, 94 traffic operations carried out across all policing divisions resulting in the detection of 715 traffic offences and the arrest of 81 individuals.

Guevarro’s statements “childish” says Gary
However, former commissioner of police Gary Griffith, knocked Guevarro for his statements calling it arrogant and childish.
In a statement also on Sunday, Griffith said, “This is arrogance at the highest level. What he should be doing when faced with criticism is justifying his actions with facts and data, rather than saying that because civilians were never involved in policing, then they should shut up.”
He said, “All he needed to do was to professionally respond and explain the reason for his actions.”
