COMMISIONER of Police Gary Griffith did not answer questions relating to investigations concerning police officers at a media briefing on Thursday.

At the start of the question and answer segment he said, “Early, to cut half of the questions, we would not be entertaining any questions or giving any statements pertaining to any matter that is presently being investigated.”

Guardian Media reported that head of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) Inspector Mark Hernandez was detained for questioning into the deaths of murder suspects Joel Balcon and Andrew “Solo” Morris early Wednesday morning.

The article quoted sources saying that Hernandez was not arrested but was asked to be interviewed in the ongoing investigations in which several SORT officers have already been questioned and released.

It stated that Hernandez was taken to the Maloney Police Station and then to the Pinto Police Station where he was being questioned in the presence of his attorney John Heath by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB).

Balcon and Morris were prime suspects in the kidnapping and murder of Arima court clerk Andrea Bharatt on January 29.
