AN unfortunate development.
This is the opinion of former Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith regarding the arrest of CoP Erla Harewood-Christopher on Thursday.
In a statement on Friday, Griffith said, “No-one is above the law.”
He said, “If it is that there is an investigation regardless of who that individual is, it can and should be investigated.”
Griffith also said the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) must be facing difficult times in dealing with the matter and asked citizens to support the TTPS.”
He also encouraged police officers to continue serving the country with pride.
The former CoP said the arrest of Harewood-Christopher was an example of how investigations should be carried out- by the police.
“This here is a perfect example of what is required for investigations. Having bonafide police officers conduct the investigation to ascertain whether some-one be arrested, charged or not,” Griffith said.
He continued, “Not hiring retired judges who have no law enforcement training or retirees and call them investigators, do an audit, pay people millions of dollars and then they come up with lies to just discredit persons based on an agenda.”
“It is hoped that persons who are in positions of authority can understand this is how you do policing,” Griffith emphasised mentioning the Stanley John report which focused on the failure of the State to defend a $20 million lawsuit.
