POLICE are investigating the murder of a maintenance worker at the St James Medical Complex on Wednesday.
Reports indicated that around 10.30 am on Wednesday, Jamal Watts, 31, a maintenance worker at the St James Medical Complex, was cutting grass at the rear of the compound when he was approached by two masked assailants.
One of the men was armed with a rifle and the other with a shotgun. The attackers fired several shots at Watts before fleeing the scene in a silver Hyundai Accent.
Watts collapsed and was taken into the medical facility by staff for treatment. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
The scene was attended and processed by officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations and the Crime Scene Investigations Unit.
In a statement the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) said:
“This incident has greatly affected the staff of the facility and a team has been activated to provide counselling services for both the family of the deceases and staff attached to the institution.”
It offered condolences to Watts’ family, friends and colleagues.
