WITH increasing daily Covid-19 deaths and positive cases, critical changes need to be implemented to better combat the deadly virus.
These changes were suggested by former Member of Parliament Dr Tim Gopeesingh who spoke at the Opposition press conference on Sunday.
The conference was hosted by Opposition Senator Anil Roberts.
Roberts maintained that Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley had mismanaged the entire Covid-19 pandemic repeating the Opposition’s stance that it was again “forced mandatory vaccination” for persons employed by the State.
Referring to the new vaccination policy for the workplace, Dr Gopeesingh, a former minister of education, said Government should not “be high-handed, authoritarian and dictatorial.
He said, “Let the people be incentivised, go out and reach them. They have fears and apprehensions which can be answered.”
Dr Gopeesingh said that the prime minister should make Covid-19 testing cheaper and more widely available to citizens through pharmacies.
Following are the solutions suggested by Dr Gopeesingh to help battle the Covid-19 pandemic in T&T:
- Change all the boards of the regional health authorities;
- Change the CEO of the North Central Regional Health Authority;
- Ensure equipment such as ventilators and oxygen concentrators are provided and working properly;
- Ask for assistance from senior experienced doctors;
- Work with pharmaceutical companies to import drugs such as Remdesivir and others to help the Covid-19 infected patients;
- Rotate junior doctors and keep them in training;
- Employ more nurses with better contracts;
- Educate and incentivise the nation to be vaccinated;
- Manage and check in on the at-home patients properly;
- Ensure the ambulance services are working efficiently; and
- Get more training for emergency technicians
