THE People’s National Movement is dismissing claims that party groups are being excluded from the upcoming 2025 internal election.
In a media release on Tuesday, PNM party chairman Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly addressed claims of exclusion from the internal election process and stated that all protocols set out by the PNM constitution were being adhered to.
She stated, “The PNM wishes to clarify a misleading narrative being advanced in the public domain, which alleges that party groups are being excluded from the upcoming 2025 internal election process. This is not only incorrect but ignores the established sequence of democratic processes that has already taken place within the party.”
Gadsby-Dolly said, “The fact is that Constituency Elections were held in 2024, leading up to the scheduled PNM Convention of November 2024. All 41 Constituencies held their party group elections, Constituency Annual General Meetings and Constituency Conferences in 2024 as mandated. The November 2024 Convention was cancelled, and a decision to have the Convention at a subsequent date was taken by the General Council of the PNM.”
She said the 2025 internal elections will be held on June 22 under the one man, one vote system and all members, including group party members, of the 41 constituencies are eligible to vote. The vote will be finalised and presented at the PNM Special Convention to be held on June 29.
Gadsby-Dolly said, “To suggest that party groups have been left out of the internal elections process leading up to the PNM Special Convention of June 2025 is inaccurate and deliberately misleading, as those fundamental organs of the party concluded their democratic processes less than a year ago, and every one of their members has the right to vote in the PNM’s internal elections.”
PNM’s internal elections and Special Convention was announced on May 17 by PNM Public Relations Officer Faris Al-Rawi after a sitting of the general council.
Addressing the media at Balisier House after the general council meeting, Al-Rawi said, “We resolved that the general council summon a special convention to be held on Sunday June 29th for the specific purpose of election of all of the officers of the movement.”
