THE recent People’s National Movement (PNM) election process held to select an interim chairperson and vice chairperson was conducted with full transparency, the PNM claims.
In a media statement on Thursday, chairperson Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly stated that the party takes note “of a former member of the party’s leadership”, which reflected on processes prior to the amendment of the PNM constitution and which recommended personal preferences and alluded to alleged election discrepancies at the special general council meeting held on Tuesday.
She stated, “This duly-convened meeting was chaired by former Attorney General, the Lady Vice Chairman of the party, Mrs Camille Robinson-Regis, who also presided over and directed an election process which was conducted with full transparency in the presence of over a hundred and forty persons in attendance.”
The result of the election was the appointment of the current Chairman and Vice Chairman of the PNM, Dr Gadsby-Dolly and Colm Imbert, respectively under and pursuant to the PNM’s Constitution.
Both had their appointments as deputy political leaders revoked by former political leader Dr Keith Rowley.
The release stated the PNM’s leadership will meet on Monday at which time, the issue of the holding of internal elections will be discussed, among other matters.
The outcome of these discussions will be a recommended date for the PNM’s internal elections, which will be proposed at the next general council meeting, Dr Gadsby-Dolly stated.
“The People’s National Movement will continue to treat with these and other internal matters in its usual diligent, transparent and expeditious manner, as we serve both our members and Trinidad and Tobago with pride and dignity,” she stated.
