THE proposed three-man commission of enquiry into the tragedy at Paria Fuel Trading Company last month will now comprise only two commissioners and is expected to be assisted by a foreign firm.
This according to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley in response to a question by Naparima MP Rodney Charles about Paria Fuel incident in the Lower House on Wednesday.
Dr Rowely said that the commission has a two-member quorum which consisted of Chairman Justice Cecil Dennis Morrsion, QC, and subsea specialist Gregory Wilson.
He said the Government was advised to use a foreign firm with experience in the oil and gas field to act in a consultant role to the two-man commission.
Dr Rowley said, “Having done that we will facilitate as we are facilitating the physical infrastructure arrangement and support for the commission.”
He said the commission would conduct its business as an independent body.
When further questioned by Oropouche East MP Dr Moonilal if any family members of the four divers received any form of compensation from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Rowley said, “I have no such information.”
On February 25, Five divers, Yusuf Henry, Fyzal Kurban, Kazim Ali Jnr, Rishi Nagassar and Christopher Boodram were part of a maintenance crew attached to a private company LMCS, to conduct underwater work on a 30-inch pipeline at Berth 6 at Paria.
However, the divers were sucked into the pipeline. Boodram is the lone survivor.
