THE aunt of former energy minister Franklin Khan passes away at his grave site on Saturday.
Reports indicated that Haniffa Khan Ramjattan, 75, was overcome with grief, collapsed and died shortly after.
The funeral of Khan took place under Covid-19 protocols at the Aramalaya Presbyterian Church in Tunapuna on Saturday.
The body was then taken to be interred at the Radix Cemetery in Mayaro where Khan’s parents are buried, AZPNews.com was told.
Khan who had heart complications passed away on April 17.
The Ministry of National Security advised all state and non-state agencies and Trinidad and Tobago diplomatic missions abroad that the national flag of T&T be flown at half-mast in observance of the official funeral on Saturday.
Khan’s daughter had to be granted an exemption to return to T&T for the funeral since the borders were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Expressing condolences yesterday was Mayaro MP Rushton Paray.
He said, “We are all terribly saddened by the sudden passing of Mrs Haniffa Khan Ramjattan at the funeral of (the late) Senator Franklin Khan. She collapsed during the committal and was unresponsive.
“Hannifa was a very community spirited woman and loved by all in the Mafeking Community.
“I know this double loss to the family will be irreconcilable at this time.”
