A RUPTURE that occurred on a chemical line at the Caroni Water Treatment Plant has resulted in residents tasting foul water on Friday.
Emergency works has begun, the Water and Sewerage Authority stated on Friday and customers can expect a disruption in water service.
In his correspondence to Member of Parliament for Chaguanas West Dinesh Rambally, WASA’s Executive Director Lennox Sealy stated that no danger was posed by the rupture that occurred on the aluminum sulphate line.
Sealy stated, “ Repair to the ruptured line has been completed and the final cleaning of treatment modules are undertaken. This is being complemented by flushing along the transmission and distribution systems in areas supplied by the plant.”
The Authority assured customers that the supply was safe and meets World Health Organisation (WHO) standards.
It is however advising that customers can conduct their own internal flushing by allowing their water supply to run in short bursts until the unusual taste or smell clears.
Rambally told AZPNews.com that he also received additional assurance from Public Utilities Minister Gonzales that WASA was dealing with the situation which was being rectified.
