Former Chief Justice Clinton Bernard Dies at 89

FORMER Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago Clinton Bernard has passed away. He was 89.

Bernard, was Chief Justice for about a decade from 1985 to 1995.

Just a few weeks ago on October 9, another former Chief Justice Satnarine Sharma passed away after a battle with cancer.

After retirement, Bernard chaired the Commission of Enquiry into the construction of the new Piarco Airport.

In August 2018, Bernard launched his autobiography Beyond the Bridge and had previously lamented that the Government had failed to pensions of judges.

Bernard was born in East Port-of-Spain in 1930, the second youngest of 12 children.

He was called to the bar in 1961.

Bernard revealed that his wife Angela had written behind his first photo dressed in his lawyer’s robes in 1961, the words “Future Chief Justice.”

On Friday, members of the Judiciary paid tribute to Sharma at a special function at the Hall of Justice in Port-of-Spain.
