LAST year March, the wife of political leader of the Trinidad and Tobago Democratic Front Anthony Williams passed away.
Struggling as a single parent to raise his five-year-old son, Williams said he understood the financial challenges that many families were currently facing.
It was for this reason among others that the party is engaging in a food drive to assist families in need.
From March 3 to March 5, the Democratic Front will be having collection drives at Kalliecharan’s Clothing Store, Point Fortin from 7 am to 5 pm.
The party is asking for donations of canned foods, rice, sugar, different types of peas, toiletries, children’s snacks, tea bags and other food items.
Williams told AZPNews.com that although the collection drive would be taking place in Point Fortin, anyone in Trinidad and Tobago can benefit.
Williams said one of the women he assisted recently was from Chaguanas and on the brink of suicide, having lost her job in the gambling industry and taking care of her seven-year-old child.
He said, “Growing up in Point Fortin, I understand poverty because many people in Point Fortin were poor as well. This collection drive in March is sort of in memory of my wife who died.”
Williams said he informed one of the local government councillors in the Point Fortin Borough of the drive and he will be delivering a letter to Member of Parliament for Point Fortin Kennedy Richards asking for assistance as well.
Anyone willing to assist can contact Williams at 782-3284.
