FOR the first time in years, activist Victor Roberts attended a People’s National Movement (PNM) public meeting.
Roberts, a former United National Congress (UNC) member was among the many PNM supporters who showed up at Harris Promenade in San Fernando on Wednesday night.
Roberts told AZP News, “I am here to hear what the prime minister is offering to the country.”

When asked if that was the only reason, Roberts replied “yes.”
He added, “But, I will tell you this though, I am not prepared to support the slate of candidates that the political leader of the UNC is putting forward. I think that she had the ideal opportunity to refresh the UNC and to choose candidates that are free from corruption, candidates that the people of the country will have confidence in and candidates who are transparent and full of integrity. For some reason that is not happening and as a result of that , I am not prepared to support the slate of candidates which I already made public.”
When asked about the PNM’s slate, Roberts answered, “Thus far, I am listening, I am observing, I think that we are seeing some new blood within the PNM.”
He also said he will be paying attention to the other political parties contesting the general election and will be attending their meetings.
“Going forward, I will decide what is the next step.”

Wearing an orange shirt, Roberts said, “If anyone has any idea in their mind that this represents PEP (Progressive Empowerment Party), I will take it off now.”
The PEP is holding hands with the UNC for the April 28 general election.
Roberts last position with the UNC was chairman of the La Brea constituency executive up until his recent resignation from the party.
When AZP News spoke with Roberts, he was in the company of former UNC local government councilor for Siparia West/Fyzabad Jason Ali.
Ali resigned from the party last year August.
Also attending the meeting was attorney Larry Lalla who also tendered his resignation from the UNC last month.
Both Ali and Lalla were clad in PNM’s red colours.
