DISCHARGING fireworks without a permit is a ticketable offence, as the Summary Offences (Amendment) Act, 2025, is in effect.

Last Thursday, the Office of the Attorney General issued a Public Advisory informing the population that the newly legislated restrictions on firework usage would come into effect on December 19.

The advisory stated, “With effect from December 19, 2025, it would be a fixed penalty (or ticketable) offence to discharge fireworks without a permit issued by the Commissioner of Police.”

The Office of the Attorney General reminded the public that the only times fireworks can be discharged without a permit was on public holidays between 8pm and 9pm and on December 31 between 11.30pm and 12.30am the next day.

The public was advised it was an offense to discharge fireworks within a half mile radius of a public or private hospital, a zoo, an airport, a registered animal shelter, a farm where animals were reared, a national park or a forest reserve.

The advisory stated applications for fireworks permits, the granting of fireworks permits and the fixed penalty notices would be contained within the Summary Offenses (Fireworks) Regulations, 2025.

These, they stated, would be signed by the Minister of Homeland Security and published in the Gazette on December 19, 2025.
