A 38-year-old air-conditioning technician has been fined $10,000 after he pleaded guilty to stealing a camera from the Arima Police Station.

The police said that a box containing two Canon EOS Rebel T7 cameras and accessories was secured in the server room on the second floor of the building, but on August 7, it was discovered that one of the cameras valued at $4,000  was missing.

The police said surveillance footage showed Renne, an employee of a contracted air-conditioning service provider, removing the camera while performing maintenance work at the station.

Renne was arrested on August 9 when he returned to the police station for further maintenance duties. He was later charged with larceny two days later and when he appeared in court on Monday pleaded guilty to the offence.

Renne was ordered to pay the $10,000 within six months and to compensate the State $4,000 for the stolen camera within two months. (CMC)
