Field Hospitals Handed Over to T&T

TRINIDAD and Tobago has officially received ownership of the two field hospitals donated by the United States Government.

In a press statement on Monday, the US Embassy stated that the donation of two field hospitals, valued at US $1.5 million, will provide the Ministry of Health with 80 additional hospital beds and help to reduce the current strain on the parallel healthcare system.

The Embassy stated, “At the Government of Trinidad and Tobago’s request, the US Embassy expedited the delivery and setup of these hospitals, and with the assistance of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force erected one hospital in Couva and the second at the Jean Pierre Complex. Subsequent to Covid-19, the hospitals can be used to provide essential medical services to the civilian population in the event of a disaster.”

Chargé d’Affaires Shante Moore,  Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and  Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh toured the field hospital at the Jean Pierre complex on Monday. Moore who officially transferred ownership of the hospitals commended the Prime Minister on his ongoing efforts to deal with the pandemic, emphasising that “We must all work together to stop the spread of Covid-19.”
