THERE are two main grants by the Government which provide relief to citizens for hardships due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
- The Salary Relief Grant (SRG), created by the Ministry of Finance, was for persons who are registered with the National Insurance Board (NIB). Apply at this site: https://portal.finance.gov.tt/
- And the Income Support Grant (ISG), via the Ministry of Social Development, was established for those not registered with the NIB. It can be applied for at this website: https://grants.social.gov.tt/
Finance Minister Colm Imbert sought to clarify the differences at a virtual press conference of his ministry of Friday in response to a question from AZPNews.com.
He said, “Once you have an NIS number you are eligible to apply for a SRG.”
The finance minister said a large number of persons were not registered with the NIB.
Imbert added, “There is no data on them. They are in the informal economy. So they are not registered for tax, they are not registered for national insurance, they are not registered for health surcharge. They are not registered for anything. But they need help.”
He said the ISG was created for such people.
Imbert said both grants were of the same value.
