Switzerland 2 vs 0 Italy
By Gerald Lutchman
APART from Spain, few teams have looked as comfortable as Switzerland in this tournament. Remo Freuler in the 37th and Ruben Vargas in the 46th gave the Swiss the right of passage to the next round.
The Italians were not impressive in this Euro and were never in this game on Saturday at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. The Swiss team dominated from the start and were worthy winners.
Switzerland now await England in the quarterfinals. Italy were not impressive in this Euro and looked slow and aged but not like a fine wine. They did not deserve to go forward because they could not score goals.
Germany 2 vs 0 Denmark
Denmark squandered several great chances and paid the price as the efficient Germany did the job before a vocal fan base. Both Germany and Denmark had goals disallowed by VAR. Second-half goals from Kai Havertz in the 53rd minute penalty and Jamal Musiala 68th minute strike secured the win for Germany. In the 4th minute, Nico Schotterbeck thought he placed Germany ahead but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul on a player inside the box. The game was stopped for 25 minutes due to a thunderstorm. Germany await Spain in the quarter finals.
