POLICE Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher was expected to be released from the St Clair Police Station on Saturday evening.
No charges were laid against her.
Harewood-Christopher was detained for questioning on Thursday in relation to the importation of two high-powered sniper rifles for the Strategic Services Agency (SSA) in 2023.
She was arrested at her office at the Police Administration Building on Sackville Street in Port of Spain and transferred to St Clair where she was interrogated after an investigation led by Deputy Police Commissioner Suzette Martin.
Also being released on Saturday was former head of the SSA Major Roger Best who was held on Wednesday.
Police sources said that both Harewood-Christopher and Best were released “pending further investigations”.
DPP Roger Gaspard, SC, ordered that they be released on Saturday afternoon.
Harewood-Christopher was being represented by Senior Counsel Pamela Elder.
